What is your Super Power?

I went on my usual prayer walk in the mornings, I was praying to overcome challenges especially mindset ones. All the thoughts of my failures and weaknesses came up to my mind but then I was reminded of the art director at a previous company. This man was super talented and I remember how he supported me in the midst of work difficulties and confusing challenges. I felt believed in and he would also offer encouraging words about my work. This is so important to us creatives but I had forgotten all about him. I just remembered the other director who would criticize and talk bad about others when they weren’t around. But as I was walking and remembered that encouraging art director, a flood of other talented people who had supported and believed in me came to my mind and I thought to myself why haven’t I thought about them?? Why had I focused on the harsh critic who besides the professional title didn’t even display the type of human I would want to be?

When I think about Chadwick Boseman and his fight with cancer amongst being a working creative, I am certain he had to keep in mind the people who believed and supported him. He had work to do, worked that he loved. Whether you are a Creative Director or Director of any sort you can help a creative be better by lifting them up and encouraging them while still giving constructive criticism.

Chadwick Boseman is such an inspiration. You must have some kind of superpower to work in spite of the challenges and I believe a lot of that superpower comes from the mind and heart. May we follow in his example of pressing on despite the challenges we face and fill our hearts with thoughts of those who support and believe in us. May we all aim to be a superhero to someone. 🖤
